20th April 2005
Dear Parents,
After one of the shortest of terms we are now at the start of one of the longest. Fortunately, however, the summer term is usually most people?s favourite, with its (hopefully!) fine weather and long holiday at the end of it! Of course it will not all be sunshine and sports days ? the national tests (?SATs?) are approaching for example as well as annual tests for all year groups ? but the children will be well-prepared for them and, as always, we will aim for them to be as stress-free as possible.
Regarding our building work, we are in the ?eye of the hurricane? at the moment! The flurry of activity at the end of term and during the Easter holiday has finished, and the main phase of our project begins in about two weeks, so we are enjoying the peace while we have it! The new Year 5 huts are a great success. They are roomy and modern and the children are very comfortable in them. They will be on site until the renovations are complete in October or November.
At the start of this term I would like to remind parents that we are always available here to talk if you have concerns ? just pop in at the end of a day to see the class teacher, or, if you wish to see me, ring or visit to make an appointment ? I will often be available to see you straight away.
Yours sincerely

STAFFING NEWS
I am delighted to inform you that two of our Teaching Assistants ? Mrs Melanie Aylward and Mrs Wendy Bryant - are close to completion of a rigorous training course which will give them the status of Higher Level Teaching Assistant. This training and status equip them with skills which will be of enormous benefit in the future, including the acceptance of increased responsibility and seniority around the school and with individual classes. We wish them well with their final assessments, which will be taking place shortly, and look forward to benefiting increasingly from their skills!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Home-Start Sedgemoor is a voluntary organisation that supports families under stress. They are looking for helpers with parenting experience. If you could spare 3-4 hours a week to support and befriend a family experiencing difficulties, please phone them on 01278 445022. They will provide fully training and support and pay expenses.
