16th June
Dear Parents,
I hope that today?s postponement of the Fun Sports did not inconvenience you too much. The grass was very wet this morning, and the sky was overcast, and so we decided that the simplest thing would be to make an early decision. Let us hope for a fine day tomorrow ? do please join us if you are able to come along.
The Whole School Photograph that was taken last week is now in school. We are quite stunned at the quality of it, with every child clearly visible and in focus and all looking very smart in their school jumpers ? many thanks for your help in achieving that considerable feat on a hot summery day. Needless to say most of the jumpers were peeled off as soon as the photograph had been taken! An order form comes with this letter, but if you would like to see the full size version before deciding, do pop in and have a look. We have a framed copy in the office, and will put another in the Y4 area at the end of the day for the next few days. Please note that there will not be class photographs this year, as this one replaces them.
Rehearsals and building work are each going well, though the noise made by the first is rather more pleasant than that made by the second! Hopefully there will be good rewards from both before too much longer!
Yours sincerely

COUNTRY DANCING FESTIVAL AT WELLS
The annual Country Dancing Festival took place last Saturday on the Cathedral Green at Wells, and was a lovely spectacle and a great experience for the children. They danced beautifully, thanks to their hard work and their excellent training from Mrs Pook.
The occasion, began with a procession through the centre of Wells, up to the cathedral. Once there all of the schools ranged themselves around the Green and the afternoon ended with hundreds of children dancing in attractive costumes beneath a gentle sun. Many thanks to all who helped with the preparations, and with support on the day, and special thanks to the children who worked so hard to get ready.
MUSIC TEACHING AT ST ANDREW?S
Music has long been a strength at this school, particularly the quality of choral singing. Mr Henshaw has built up a fine tradition in this area, and the fruits of this, and of the hard work of himself and his colleagues on the staff will be seen next month at our end-of-term productions. One area that has thrived rather less, however, is the musical instrument teaching. Numbers of children learning an instrument have decreased in recent years, and so we have decided to look into an alternative that may be more attractively priced and more easily organised. We are able, therefore, to offer lessons from the beginning of next term in all woodwind instruments, all brass instruments, keyboards and guitar. The cost of these will be very significantly lower than has been the case in the past. A 20-minute lesson would cost £7, but this cost would be halved if the session were shared with another person. For guitar lessons, a group of three or at most four, would bring the cost down still further. Our visiting teacher would be able to offer a course of 32 lessons spread over the year. If you are interested, please let Mr James know as soon as possible, so that arrangements can be made. We have a small number of brass instruments here, although others would need to be supplied by yourselves, or hired. Come an see us if you would like some help with this.
SPONSORED THREE-LEGGED EVENT
Thank you for the money that is coming in rapidly now. At the time of writing the total has reached a magnificent £1300 with every indication that it will come very close to beating the record of £1700! This represents much hard work, both by the children and by their parents, and we are most grateful.
SUMMER NETBALL FOR GROWN-UPS!
Netball sessions are being enjoyed by a group of ladies (16 or over) on Monday evenings at King Alfred Sports Centre between 7.00 and 8.00 pm . They have a few vacancies, so if you would like to join the happy band, turn up there on Monday, or have a chat with Mrs Mead at school here if you would like to know more about this activity.
CLASS ASSEMBLY BY 6J
The theme of Class 6J?s assembly before half term as The Olympic Games, and we learned a great deal about the bid to bring the Games to London in 2012. Could it be that the Games will come to this country, and that someone who was in the hall for this presentation might be there as a competitor? There is a challenge!
